Virtuoso dashboard

Problem

The traveler-oriented Virtuoso.com homepage did not provide value to the Virtuoso member travel advisors. The Virtuoso.com dashboard solved this problem for advisors by providing a consolidated entry point to access their most used features.

Process

I was the sole designer and researcher for this project. I conducted UX research to inform the design, leveraged user input and collaborated with stakeholders to prioritize features, and iterated on design options.

Impact

Two months after its release in April 2016, the dashboard was the 3rd most visited page on Virtuoso.com by member travel advisors and received positive feedback from users.

UX research

I started this project by conducting user research  to understand what travel advisors needed the most in order to help them use Virtuoso.com more quickly and efficiently. This was a 2-part session with 10 travel advisors. The first part was a Wants and Needs Analysis, where the whole group brainstormed features they would want in a dashboard, then individually prioritized these features. The second part  was a group codesign paper-prototyping session. Splitting into two small groups, the participants built over-sized paper prototypes of what they wanted their dashboards to include.

Feature prioritization

I deployed a survey to get a wider user perspective on priorities surfaced in the qualitative UX research. Then, I asked the product manager and other business stakeholders to help  to rate each user-suggested feature on value to the business.  I leveraged these two sets of ratings  balance user needs and business needs in the design.

Design iteration

I went through several iterations of individual widgets and the dashboard as a whole using Axure. I worked with the project manager and our developers throughout to make sure that what I was designing was feasible to build with the allotted resources. My high level goals were to provide a simple and smooth interaction design and to incorporate some visual interest to break up the text volume.

Outcomes and impact

The dashboard was released in April 2016, quickly became the 3rd most visited page on Virtuoso.com by member travel advisors, and received positive qualitative feedback from users.
